Matthew Cutlan

Matthew is a banking partner with extensive private practice and in-house leadership experience, including as Group General Counsel and in C-suite executive roles within international businesses across banking, investment management, alternative asset management and the wider financial services sector. He began his career in the banking team within a global elite law firm.

Matthew has particular expertise across banking and investment funds. His banking experience includes asset and receivables-based lending, acquisition finance, fund finance and structured finance, while his funds practice encompasses fund structuring and launches, separately managed accounts and related investment management arrangements.

In addition to his specialist banking and funds expertise, Matthew has broad experience of M&A, restructurings, business transformation, governance and enterprise legal risk across both scale-up businesses and mature organisations. He has worked closely with shareholders, boards and senior management throughout his career and brings a practical, commercial perspective to legal and transactional matters.

Before entering law, Matthew studied Electrical and Information Engineering at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge, graduating with a Master of Engineering degree.
